The glacier run on the Gemsstock bears the name Bernhard Russi Run in honor of the Olympic champion from Sapporo: "It's my favorite run and one of the most beautiful descents in the Alps. It's also sensational for carvers," Russi raves about the 4-kilometer-long slope. The Bernhard Russi Run was first held in the winter of 1998/99: 3,5 km long, 850 meters of vertical drop, four gates, and an average speed of 100 km/h. Eighteen participants attempted to beat the best time set by Bernhard Russi. This unique event was won by Ian Russi, son of the Olympic champion Bernhard.
